A Charleston Photographer’s Perspective: Keep It Simple – 1 Year Later

by:  Jason Bennett

One year ago we were asked to photograph a beach wedding for a friend.  The great thing about it was, they wanted to keep it simple .  No big lights, no big crew, no big deal.  Great news for us!  So, pack the bags and off to Sullivan’s Island, SC we go.

We arrived very early and took some shots of flowers, sand, driftwood, abandoned shoes… you know, beach stuff.

Ok, that was fun but it was soon approaching game time.  The wedding party arrived, the ceremony began, the people smiled and the shutter clicked.  No pressure.

When the ceremony was over we took the obligatory group shots, the one of the bride’s hands holding the flowers, the newlyweds gazing into each others eyes… all from the natural light of the setting sun.  Beautiful.

But the photo of the day was the most simple of them all, and the least expected. Grandfather and granddaughter in a moment away from the group, away from the happy laughter, having their own special, simple moment.

That photo defined the day.  Simple
